Lemon glaze for pound cake

Lemon Glaze for Pound Cake

A bright, sweet lemon glaze made in 5 minutes with 3 ingredients. It sets with a pretty shine and soaks slightly into warm pound cake for a thin, crackly finish.
Servings: 12
Course: Dessert

Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice about 1 large lemon
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
  • 1 tiny pinch of salt
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons milk only if needed to thin

Method

  1. Sift the powdered sugar into a medium bowl.
  2. Add the lemon juice, lemon zest, and pinch of salt. Whisk until completely smooth and glossy.
  3. Check the thickness. The glaze should fall in a thick ribbon. If too thick, whisk in milk 1 teaspoon at a time. If too thin, add more sifted sugar.
  4. Glaze the cake. Let your pound cake cool 10 to 15 minutes. Set it on a wire rack over a baking sheet, then pour the glaze over the top, letting it drip down the sides.
  5. Let the glaze set for 30 to 45 minutes until firm before slicing and serving.
